The comedy takes place in the world of high school musical theater.

Jake Busey & Nicole Sullivan to Star in High School Comedy 'Divos!, a high school comedy. Marissa Jaret Winokur, Jayson Bernard, Jason Stuart and newcomer Timothy Brundidge will also star.

The comedy was written by Matt Steele, who will also star in the film that will be the directorial debut of Ryan Patrick Bartley.

The movie follows Ricky Redmond (Steele), a high school senior who thinks he is a shoo-in for the lead role in the school's musical until baseball MVP Josh Kelly (Brundidge) shows up at auditions. Ricky takes Josh under his wing to teach the rookie actor the ins and outs of being a teenage divo (a male diva) but soon realizes that Josh's star quality is more dangerous than he originally anticipated.

Jayson Bernard and Roberto Rosario Jr. of J&R Productions will produce with In The Basement Entertainment. The film will be executive produced by Bernard. 

Says Bartley, “Our goal is to make you laugh, make you cry, make you never want to say goodbye! That, and to destroy all preconceived notions of a self-aggrandized high school musical theater troop, and to show the hilarious and awkward cutthroat ineptitude within that world.”

Jake Busey, Nicole Sullivan & More Lead ‘Divos!’ High School Comedy Movie

Stranger Things and upcoming Predator star Jake BuseyMatt SteeleNicole Sullivan, Marissa Jaret Winokur, Jayson Bernard, Jason Stuart and Timothy Brundidge have been set as the cast for the indie high school comedy Divos!.

Ryan Patrick Bartley will make his feature-film directorial debut from a screenplay by Steele. Jayson Bernard and Roberto Rosario Jr. of J&R Productions are producing along with In the Basement Entertainment. The film is executive produced by Bernard.

In Divos!, Ricky Redmond (Steele) is South Hamilton High School’s musical stage star whose turf is encroached upon in his senior year when the school’s baseball MVP Josh Kelly (Brundidge) gives him a run at auditions. Mustering up some team spirit, Ricky takes Josh under his wing to teach the rookie actor the ins and outs of being a teenage divo — or male diva. The tables turn and soon Josh attempts to sabotage Ricky’s school stardom.

Busey will play Mr. Kelly, Josh’s father, a sports helicopter parent intent on steering his son away from an acting career. MadTV alum Sullivan will portray Candy, Ricky’s eccentric single mother. Winokur will play Sister Hartt, an overworked nun who heads the choral department. Bernard is English teacher Mr. Aubrey, who has the power to cast who he wants in the high school productions. Stuart will play Berry Cruise, who shares a ride with the teens they will not soon forget.

Rounding out the cast are Luis Avila, Julia Boyd, Chris Schermerhorn, Daniel Kim, Quinn Lozar, Josh Schechter and Cougar MacDowall.

Busey will play a parent intent on steering his son, played by Brundidge, away from pursuing an acting career over a future as a baseball star. Steele plays a senior obsessed with drama class and the theater. Winokur will play an over-worked nun who heads the choral department.

Rounding out the cast are Luis Avila, Julia Boyd, Chris Schermerhorn, Daniel Kim, Quinn Lozar, Josh Schechter, and Cougar MacDowall. “Divos!” is scheduled to film in September and October.
